The US State Department wanted to classify several rounds (5.56, 7.62nato, 7.62x39, etc) as purely 'military' and thus ineligible to export to Canada - as opposed to the rumor which had the roles reversed.
Fortunately it sounds like the Canadians got as pissed as they should have, and the policy has lost steam.
However, the federal government is still up to other shenanigans. Not only is the DOD requiring the military to mutilate spent brass so that it can't be reloaded, even the NPS is also looking to make all their land "lead-free" by 2010, which I guess means no more hunting.
